We're Off to Wal....
Mart. We're going to Wal Mart. I know, I probably had you excited for a split second that I secretly won the lottery and would be funding a free trip to Disney for the first 50 readers, but alas, that is not the case! So, next best thing, we're going to Wal Mart! *I know, I laughed as I wrote that*
I'm one of many who really, really does not like Wal Mart. I don't believe I've ever met anyone who has ever uttered the phrase "I love going to Wal Mart!" Between the crowds, fights over parking spaces, sticky and broken shopping carts, screaming children and surprising body odors most people grumble as much about a trip to Wal Mart as they do when tax season rolls around. Be that as it may when I'm in a rush I do get some of my groceries there and on occasion I manage to find some beloved movies or TV series (like my latest purchase, The Addams Family TV series!). On my last grocery shopping venture I noticed as I went past the clothing section they seemed to have some nice fall sweaters on hand. I kept going but made a mental note to go back and check out their selection and perhaps blog about it.
So here we are! Read on and check out some affordable fall fashion, courtesy of your local Wal Mart!

I'll start by saying I was actually pleasantly surprised by some of the items I tried on in the store. Some of the sweaters were ridiculously soft and cozy and I'm 99% sure I'm going back for at least two of them.
So this was the first sweater I tried on, it wasn't...bad. A bit on the boring side especially paired with the gray pants I found (that were waaaay too big, hence the cropped photo!) but the buttons on the shoulder at least add a fun little detail. Most of the sweaters I tried on were priced at $16.94 and that's a price you almost can't beat, the quality might not quite be there but when you're on a budget, these are definitely worth checking out! This one was cozy and the fit was a bit boxy so it didn't make my favorites list but it was a decent contender!
I really wanted to like this sweater, the side detail was cute, I love yellow for fall...but it just fell completely flat for me. This one was only $13.88 and for the price it was one of the softer sweaters I tried on! I just didn't find the cut very flattering, it had a scoop hemline so it very slightly curved in the front and just didn't lay very well. So this one ended up being a nope for me.
I loved this little jacket! I could see it as the perfect option for a light trek through the woods, a weekend spent camping and sitting around the campfire, navigating a corn maze with the family, carving pumpkins on the porch...you get the picture. For almost anything fall related I think it would work great! The material was so soft and as my friends can attest to, I love soft textures! I'm constantly touching everything in almost every store I go through, grimacing at the rough textures and cuddling up to the soft ones! But back to the jacket! You could pair this with a simple tunic, leggings and boots, maybe joggers, a slouchy tee and sneakers or throw it on over a simple dress to add some color! The jacket was priced at $13.48 and the yellow top underneath was a simple, soft, long-sleeved shirt priced at $7.92! (I would actually prefer these two items worn separately but you still get the idea!)
These were my two favorite looks! The look on the left totals $57.78 (sweater: $16.94, jeggings: $12.86, boots: $27.98) and I could definitely see myself wearing this in a lot of different places all through fall and winter! The sweater was so comfortable and with it being tunic length it would be perfect with skinny jeans or leggings on a more casual day home. The boots added a bit of edge to the outfit and I love the contrast between the lighter top and the darker bottoms.
And for my absolute favorite item! The floral sweatshirt on the right was by far the softest item I tried on! And the best part?! It was only $9.96! I generally don't like florals (and I actually hate roses) but I'm going to look past that flaw and bring that baby home! I was wearing the same jeggings but I swapped out the boots for a slouchier, pointy-toed suede pair that were only a few dollars more, $29.98. (Don't you love the weird clip thing just hanging out mid-air between my calves? It just makes the whole look more fashion forward!) Also, about the jeggings. I didn't find them remotely flattering in the derriere area, but the fit on the legs was great, they weren't too long on me which was very surprising. At 5'3 I have a very difficult time finding bottoms that don't drag 5 miles behind me. I'm inclined to buy the above pair because of the fit and how great they did look underneath a longer sweater.
Another detail I usually avoid like the plague, bows! It ended up being a surprisingly nice detail on what would otherwise be a very boring sweater and I also (surprisingly) really liked the dusty pink color. I added the booties because I always love pairing something edgier with more feminine items to add a nice balance to the outfit as a whole. I added some burgundy sneakers for a more casual laid-back, running errands kind of vibe in the second photo and for the price (only $5.87!!) they were incredibly comfortable! I don't know if it was memory foam on the inside or something similar but I was not expecting that level of comfort when I slipped them on.
Looking at these photos now, these two are definitely my least favorite. I liked the idea of the red sweater on the left but the mottled colors just...mmm, I don't know. It just didn't work for me. I did like the bright color paired with the simple leopard flats I found for $5.87 but as a whole, this one got added to the nope pile. The sweater on the right I could see as being a good option for a day spent outside in the snow, it was the heaviest and thickest of the sweaters and you definitely wouldn't get cold very easily in that one but it was very full and the fit not particularly flattering. But maybe they pique your interest and for $9.96 and $16.94 respectively you might just decide they're worth trying on!
I really like both of these! They're more fitted and sleek and what can I say, I'm a sucker for camo in particular! Both shirts were very comfortable and could be dressed up or down. You could pair the shirt on the left with a leather skirt, tights and heeled booties for a night out and the camo shirt with some slacks, heels and blazer and you have a fun print for the office! The shirt on the left was on clearance for $7 and the camo shirt was $13.94 I believe (I forgot to snap a photo of the price tag in the store but I think I found the right shirt online in a different color...so we'll go with that!)
And just like that we're already done with the tops! I almost dragged some accessories into the fitting room with me but since I was already constantly switching items out to maintain the '6 garments at a time' rule I didn't feel like adding to that mess! So I did a loop through the purses and jewelry sections and snapped some pics of a few affordable favorites I spotted along the way.
All of these crossbody bags: $13.97! |
And these backpacks? $19.97! |
I really loved the top left quilted bag and for only $22.97 you'll get a sizeable tote for a great price! |
If you prefer to carry just the essentials look no further than these: $9.97! |
I love fun studs, they're a simple way to dress up your ears and your wardrobe without taking a lot of thought and Wal Mart, has you covered! You can get multiple pairs for only $4.88, whether you need ear cuffs, studs or hoops, they have a wide variety so you're sure to find something you like!
I love the layering necklaces they have! And the fact that you get multiples in a pack! I was in need of some simple gold layering necklaces a few months ago but had no time to really shop around before my Supernatural convention so for the first time in forever I ran to the jewelry section and found some pieces that would work. I ended up being complimented by the Grand Coven Witch herself, Ruth Connell aka Rowena Macleod on my cool layered necklaces so 'Go Wal Mart!'
The lovely Ruth Connell and myself...sporting my choker from Nordstrom and my necklaces from Wal Mart! :D |
Ciao!
I love your post and all the work you put into it! And no joke, you have me convinced to go check out Walmart. Haha
ReplyDeleteI'm currently sitting here wearing the floral sweatshirt I tried on...so if you join me in the wardrobe world of Walmart I will be thrilled! ;)
